Photomask of SKE

Producing a Diverse Range of Photomasks

Liquid crystal displays play a vital role in the interaction between user and digital device. As displays have become more complex, so have their uses: from LCD televisions to PC monitors, from cameras to smartphones to tablets and more.

Organic EL technology forms the basis of even thinner displays. Touch screen adoption has exploded with the smartphone and tablet markets. And SK-Electronics is there, providing the perfect photomasks to contribute to these advancements.

Choosing the Optimum Materials Including Synthetic Fused Quartz

Photomasks are generally made of glass, which is resistant to most chemicals and gives stability to photomasks. Among the various types of glass, SK-Electronics uses the best quality material for photomasks: synthetic fused quartz.

Synthetic fused quartz, with a small coefficient of thermal expansion, provides precise dimensions, transmits shortwave light for exposure at a significant rate of 95% or more, and reproduces a precise pattern in a shorter time.

SK-Electronics also uses film and other substrate materials such as soda-lime glass, depending on the type and application of products.

From Generation 1 to Generation 10

SK-Electronics supplies photomasks in various sizes. In the area of LCDs, which predominate in the thin display market, the 7th-generation displays have been launched. Anticipating the future of LCDs, SK-Electronics has built a mass production system for photomasks that meets the requirements for 8th-generation LCDs. In addition, SK-Electronics provides photomasks for small- and mid-sized LCDs for mobile phones and monitors.

What does “generation” refer to in the LCD field?

For glass substrates used in LCDs, the term generation means the size of a substrate. The higher the generation number, the larger the size of the glass substrate. Photomasks must be sized in accordance with the generation of an LCD, because they are used as original plates to transfer patterns to TFT and color filter substrates.
