Difference between RFID and FeliCa

RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, is the technology to exchange information through near-field wireless communication between an RF tag and a reader/writer.
Felica can be used by holding it up to the reader/writer in the same way as NFC, and often times they are mistakenly thought to be the same. However, there are clear differences between them. Before going there, will explain NFC.

RFID can be categorized into UHF band tag and HF band tag based on their frequency. NFC tag is one of the HF band tags’ standard and system.
NFC, Near Field Communication, is the standard for near-field wireless communication developed by Sony and Philips.
NFC refers to the communication system itself. Based on NFC, the contactless IC card technology is named Felica, which was added the security structure developed by Sony and improved communication speed to NFC.
